The Future Quarterback - I think it's Bortles

He has worse numbers than Ben did in his first 4 years, but numbers alone don't tell the whole story. As wrong_box said, the initial plan was for Bortles to sit and learn for at least a season. Unfortunately, the team at the time was struggling and ended up throwing him in way before he was ready. If I had to guess, I would think that Bortles probably gets signed to some kind of deal (perhaps 3 years?) and the team drafts a development QB with the idea that he will sit and learn. I don't think Henne will be back as the backup, and I doubt that the team would gamble on a rookie being the primary backup so if ANY free agent QB is brought in it's going to be someone cheap. The bottom line is Bortles will never be a Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rogers, etc. He's more along the lines of Joe Flacco, Carson Palmer, Andy Dalton, etc. He's good enough to be a starting QB, but is by no means a "star QB". It is what it is. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. |
