First off, the stats mean nothing for what I'm criticizing Nussmeier on. When the time came for him to make adjustments and/or break from his tendencies, he didn't. The end of the drive that I mentioned is a perfect example of this. Auburn was selling out to stop the run and instead of going play-action, he ran the ball again into the heart of the defense on 4th down and got stuffed just like on the previous play.


Hell, I wasn't going to talk about the Sugar Bowl, but that's another instance of him not making adjustments. Cyrus Kouandjio had been getting beat almost the entire game while pass-blocking because the DE on his side was much to fast for him and Nussmeier never have him any sort of help in the form of a chip from a TE or a RB. I'm not saying he had to do it every single play because it'd be dumb, but on crucial plays where AJ got hurried/hit/sacked, you have to make that adjustment.


I'm not calling Nuss a terrible OC, but it's pretty stupid to try and handwave away his flaws when they're right there for everyone to see. Though, I do find it amusing that the Washington SBNation blog would stick up for him just because he used to coach there.
