The safeties, the LBs and even Bouye seemed to struggle to read and react many times throughout the game and were often caught taking bad angles or reacting too late. 

Whether the fix involves simply playing less zone, adjusting responsibilities and positioning within the zone, or specifically drilling the mistakes in the coming weeks, they'll need to sort it out somehow. 

Shanahan was certainly smart in attacking the defense, but they were caught flat-footed in responding to it. They'll absolutely need to be able to respond to a smart OC and quick-release QB much more adeptly if they hope to advance in the post season.

For sure individual players' performances and efforts didn't help the scheme last night.

The pattern though was the same of the Cardinals game (same strategy they used with Gabbert, but Garoppolo is better) and to a certain extent to the Jets game.

Genuine question: in games like these, when zone isn't working and players seems to be a bit lost, wouldn't some basic man-coverage more effective at least to mitigate the issues in an easier more immediate way considering our players are talented enough? I'm not talking about preparing the game like that, but as in-game adjustement when QB's are getting rid of the ball quick and with accuracy like Jimmy G.

To your last sentence, I surely hope they'll adjust for that type of opponent. Brady would have a career day if we play like that and maybe other teams that forced some stuff on us (like Pittsburgh did) will start to adjust as well if we meet them again.
