It's a way to make Cleveland know that he doesn't want to play for them and that they should be prepared to trade the pick. Besides, if he entered the draft and they did select him, he could just not sign the contract, sit out next year and re-enter the 2019 draft. That way he could avoid injury by not playing in 2018. Right now, he kinda has all the power.

He sat out their bowl game didn't he?
Looks like he'll be entering the draft.

He shouldn't do that stupid "I don't want to play for..." crap.
Go be the reason Cleveland is good again.

Avoiding a bad team tells me you're not confident in your abilities to be great despite adversity.

Elway didn't want to play for the Colts when he was drafted.  Does that mean he wasn't confident in his abilities?  I think not, especially since he threatened to play baseball.

Bo Jackson did not want to play for the Bucs the year he was slated to be drafted for various reasons.  I'm pretty sure he was confident in his abilities, considering he did go play baseball and later said pro football would be his "hobby," when he did eventually go to the Raiders.

Largely under the advice of his father, Eli Manning did not want to play for the Bolts when he was drafted.

I don't think a reluctance to play for the Browns would necessarily be reflective of self doubt about his abilities.  I do think a reluctance to play for the Browns is indicative of an aversion to the systemic organizational dysfunction that allows the Browns to perpetually lose the way they have been.

Furthermore, if my understanding of his quote is accurate, he did not specifically mention the Browns.  Unless he was asked a question specifically about the Browns, he spoke in general terms.  As a general rule, a player's best chance to succeed only comes in the right situation.

Consider that teams make statements about the suitability of players for their teams all the time and draft accordingly.  Players are people too.  I'm pretty certain players have opinions about the suitability of teams for them all of the time.  However, because of the draft, they typically don't have much control over where they go.  It doesn't mean their opinions go away.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!
