Video Released From Government's $22 Million UFO Program Shows Strange Flying Object

#28

Let's start with the premise that we now have reached a technological level to create interstellar space travel. Admittedly it would be prohibitively expensive and rather primitive, but humanity has the technology to do it.

To have visitors to Earth means that there is another race out there that is also capable of interstellar travel (RCIT), and presumably much better at it. That means two or more races exist at the same time. If so, then the development of a RCIT in our galaxy is reasonably common, and many such races should have been created in the last (say) 10 million years. Surely if that were true one of those races would have by now settled every habitable planet in the galaxy. At 1/10th light speed, it would take a million years to go from one end of the galaxy to the other. In 10 million years every habitable planet in the galaxy would be colonized, and this is limited by construction and travel speed, not procreation speed. The idea of a benevolent race careful of not destroying native life is a pretty image, but such a race is unlikely. It takes some level of aggression to develop a high level of intelligence. If RCITs were common, the Earth would have been colonized long ago and we would not be here.

You don't send out an expensive spaceship to travel on a very long trip (at least four years but probably a lot more) unless you were interested in staying for a long time. Even if you buy into the benevolent race theory, they would not be coming to Earth just to observe us unless they were also capable of speeds much faster than light (FTL).

So we're stuck with either a hypothetical benevolent race that is capable of FTL travel, successfully suppressed all competition for maybe a billion years, and is keeping the Earth as a zoo. Or we haven't been visited by an alien race. The latter is way more likely.
