A phrase like "defense wins championships" is antiquated in the current NFL. Thats doesn't mean that you can win with a garbage defense, just that its no longer the most important aspect of winning as it may have been back in the prehistoric NFL. An offense that can make big plays consistently is the more important part of the equation nowadays. A "good" defense simply falls in line with other necessary needs for a SB team such as good special teams, a reliable FG kicker, and a decent running game.
