Your whole fanbase should not forget that the organization allowed that clause to be in the contract to begin with.

They put it there, gave him the alternative, so for any number of reasons, it was a reasonable decision to exercise.....especially the "we pay you whether you work or not" aspect of things.  Just stupid.

If you take your original post as the whole story, it makes even more sense to get out with a GM who is torpedoing you in the media, and other conflict... before even contemplating the ownership issues.  

He made a decision each and every single one of your own fans would make, if they were in his shoes.
