According to Wiki, Coach Sprinkles was fired on December 18, 2016 and both Coach Marrone and a guy named Tom Coughlin were hired on January 9, 2017. Marrone, if course, finished that 2016 season as interim HC. He likely was more prepared than anyone to assume control and perhaps felt the hand of DC, and subsequently TC, guiding him as well.

You know, I was really surprised when Jim Schwartz turned down the DC position the year before that. I really thought it would be wise move to coordinate for a team that should've had a Head Coach vacancy around Thanksgiving.
