I don't know that you are too far off from a certain perspective.

While Marrone was on the coaching staff under Gus and he had developed some "street cred" with the OL, chances are he'd have to win over the rest of the team.

I suspect on some level, there may have been some players who may have questioned his ability to turn this team around, just like there were some fans.  Having TC in his corner gave Marrone the firm front office backing needed for him to be able to implement his philosophy.

But now that the team as a whole has thrived under his leadership, I don't think there is a credibility gap there anymore, if there ever was one in the first place.

While I certainly welcome TCs presence in this organization, if Marrone leads this team to another winning season this year, I think Marrone could thrive without TC afterwards.
