Spending the rollover in 2018 puts us way over the cap for 2019. cap space by team If you click the above link, and click on "2019" you see the Jags are way over the 2019 cap. Of course, you are correct. We will be fine. But it does mean we will have to do some maneuvering, including cutting some expensive veterans and replacing them with inexpensive draftees. Campbell might be gone, Dareus might be gone, Malik Jackson might get restructured, Parnell might be gone. And so on. And if you look at the individual contracts, you can see that among the veterans, we could get significant cap savings in 2019 by cutting certain veterans Dareus, Campbell, Gipson, Church, Parnell. I'm leaving out Malik Jackson on purpose but if we released him we could save $11 million on our cap. And that doesn't even include re-signing Dante Fowler, who's not even under contract for 2019. So it seems like if we go the route of the OP, then our best opportunities for drafting cheaper replacements would be at defensive line and both safety positions, and one offensive tackle. |
