The Elephant In The Room That Nobody Is Talking About.

I wonder if the concept of spending millions for one person, either a high-profile player or a coach, is still foreign to him and his people.  That's probably far fetched.

I think the notion that he won't spend money on a high profile player is probably premature.  This year was about blowing up the roster.  They had to recognize that by doing so, they'd wind up in a situation where the team would be pretty bad. Knowing this, would spending large on one high profile player have served any purpose?  The team would still stink, but would signing an expensive free agent have satisfied anyone?  This team was way beyond being fixed with a couple of high profile free agent grabs.

As far as signing a high profile coach, list one that was coming to Jacksonville.  Reid was the biggest snag of this past offseason, and he pretty much knew where he was going as soon as he hit the street.  He was going to go to a team that was closer to a potential playoff franchise than the Jaguars were, so throwing all the money in the planet to hire him would have been pointless.

The other high profile coach who was hired this year replaced Reid.  How's he doing in Philly?  The jury is still out on Bradley despite the slow start.  I know many are annoyed by his eternally positive attitude, but I'm not really sure what they're expecting.  Do they want their head coach slaughtering players by name in the press?  Because you'll be hard-pressed to find an instance where any NFL head coach would do anything of the sort.  He's not going to change his demeanor in the media, so quit expecting it to happen.  But, it's clear the guy isn't happy with where things are currently, and even in his positive way, he's trying to tell the fans that this team is just lacking talent.

I tend to think this year was always expected to be a tough one.  I also think you'll see this team making more significant moves next year in free agency to support the high draft pick they'll wind up with.  That includes going after key components in free agency to help the lines.  It won't be sexy to the ordinary fan, but those will be the investments that will matter.  This year was always going to be about blowing things up once they jettisoned Gene Smith and Mike Mularkey, then identifying the new core of players who will be part of the process moving forward.  Next year is about making significant strides in the rebuild.  As fans, we've got no choice but to let this thing unfold.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
