That's not the point.

The point is that maybe if the coaches had talked to him instead of adding on to the bullying, this may have been avoided. But instead, they piled on to this kid and he hit a breaking point.

It's not that difficult as an adult to pull a kid aside and have an actual conversation. This has nothing to do with "Hey get thick skin kid." Kids expect it from their peers but not from someone who supposedly had their best interest at heart.
