I really think this staff will let starts and snap counts play out according to performance and not paychecks.
Marrone:
"I don't care how you've been acquired, that's over. Doesn't mean diddly... What are you gonna' do now... At the end of the day we have to put football players on the field that win football games... We can't afford to let someone walk away from this camp who could help us as a football player...That would be the worst mistake you could make."
These comments embody that to me, and I for one do not think this is just coach-speak.
Yup. If I can say one thing, it's that Marrone and TC definitely make sure the best players are on the field, and aren't afraid to shake things up. See Poz going to SLB and the "benching" of Blake in pre season.
I'm not worried about the depth chart of WRs. The best will play. And that also means the "best" for that situation too. We'll probably see more Moncrief and Lazard in goal line situations than we will Chark and Cole.
I agree listening to Marrone that as long as he's true to himself, he's going to evaluate how guys are playing.
Oesher recently reported the following...
Quote:Returning veteran Marqise Lee and Moncrief figure to start, with second-year veterans Keelan Cole and Dede Westbrook as well as Chark also playing key roles.
There's zero reason Lee should "figure to start" outside of his paycheck.
