Right.  The simplified version you've heard is fine.  But it's one dimensional.  The simplification that it makes is that it assumes that a politician who is somewhat right leaning on one issue is somewhat right leaning on all issues.   But we know that real people aren't like that.  A real person might have an extremely right wing view about, say abortion, while having an extremely left wing view about marijuana or socialized medicine.  So my more complicated description accounts for this.  Political views don't just go right and left away from the center.  They can go out in any direction.  But once they get far enough away, the short term goals become the same: to take down the center.

You are misinterpreting my words and blaming me for it.  You should be asking questions to clarify your understanding of what I'm trying to say.
If you think I'm being inconsistent about Maxine Waters vs. the Manson girls, maybe I am.  Wouldn't be the first time for any of us to be inconsistent about something.
But I don't think I'm being inconsistent.  
The Manson girls attempted to kill the President.  They were violent.  They had no official role in government.
Maxine Waters hasn't even called for violence.  She simply called for the trend of Trump enablers being trespassed out of public restaurants to continue.  And she has an official role in government.
So yes, I am applying different rules to how I categorize these two people, and I think that's fine.  
I think putting them both this broad category of "extreme political views" is not very illuminating.
