But he doesn't have to be.

Last year showed that if you give him help, and not put too much on his shoulders and put him in too many long yardage situations, he can be an effective QB. Let's face it. Had the defense held onto the lead, we'd have been in the Super Bowl last year with Bortles.

He doesn't have to be right now, with an elite bordering on all time great defense. But as we know those don't last forever, or even more than a handful of years, in the salary cap age. Players get expensive, players get old, players get hurt, players simply get worse.

If Bortles is going to be the long term answer he most likely will have to develop into a truly great QB for us to keep the team at the top.
