Yeah, he's really a racist scumbag

Eh, if someone is really, deeply, and consciously hateful of black people in their hearts, they could still probably stomach doing a few good deeds in the public eye to maintain appearances.
Trump is trivially racist in the same sense most people are. But is he governing or making speeches with racist intent? Not against black people, no.  
I think he said the wrong thing regarding the Charlottesville rallies a year ago and I think his pride prevented him from understanding it and apologizing.  The man always doubles down.  Like most American men his age he was taught to think of Robert E Lee as gallant and honorable, never thinking about what he chose to use that gallantry and honor for.  For more than two thirds of his life no one seriously called any of that into question.  But that's just ignorance, not racism.
You could argue that he's governed with antipathy to Central Americans and Muslims though - but one is an ethnicity and the other is a religion.  Neither is really a race.
So we can't know for sure, but you're probably right.
