I think he would have been a clear upgrade over Kessler, and I like Kessler. 

But did the team think he would have been a clear upgrade over Bortles, which is what Bortles haters are hoping for?  Obviously not, otherwise the team would have signed him without trading for him during the summer, or they would have been willing to give up at least a 3rd to get him from the Jets.

He doesn’t have to be a clear upgrade. He just needed to be better than Kessler, should something drastic happen with Bortles. But again, that’s only worth to me a 6th or 7th round pick.
