Due diligence. Also the fact that this team is in contention right now and may have some hard cuts to make after this season, the last thing you want is to feel like you have to punt on the season if Bortles goes down. I like Kessler, but he's more of a spot start guy if Bortles misses a week here or there. Bridgewater is the type of guy that I think could succeed in managing an actual playoff game with our running attack and defense.

That said, I wouldn't have traded anything more than a sixth for a guy on a one year deal who you ideally never have to see on the field.
