Clowney is a 4-3 DE. He's not a 3-4 OLB. The Texans let Mario Williams leave because he was more of a 4-3 DE than a 3-4 OLB

 

 

Let's be clear - the Texans would have been more than happy if Mario Williams was still there.  He isn't not because they became a 3-4 defense, but because he became a free agent and they didn't want to pay him that kind of money.  

 

Also, NOT getting a Clowney because you run a different scheme is the worst possible way of drafting.  Clowney is good enough to find a spot on any defense.  

 

Also, having Clowney might push them to change to a 4-3 in the future.  I believe you should accumulate the best possible players, and then find a scheme that maximizes their potential... not the other way around.
