Don't underplay Mahomes by dismissing him as just a QB with four starts. He's special. I don't buy into the "Brett Favre" stuff because that's what they say about every young QB that strings together a few good games and can run with it, but there's no doubt that he is special.

I'm tired of not knowing which QB will show up on a weekly basis: good Blake, good-enough Blake or bad Blake? Put Alex Smith, unremarkable limp-armed game-managing Alex Smith on this team and we're 4-1, maybe even 5-0. If I had to choose between Alex Smith and Ronnie Harrison with that third-round pick, I mean, I think Ronnie's got a great future ahead of him and I'm glad he's on board, but I'd take Smith 10 times out of 10.

I just don't see how we can keep writing it off as, "Bortles is learning, he's young, he's getting better." I'm looking at the whole team and seeing that yeah, we're young, and in a perfect world Bortles would be the guy, but he's not. We don't have four years for another first-round pick to figure out if he's the guy or not. This is the type of team that you go out and find a solid veteran QB for, then let him ride the defense to a championship. The Ravens won a Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer. Trent. Dilfer. If that isn't proof that a consistently mediocre QB that doesn't target his O-lineman's helmet could get this team to the Super Bowl, I don't know what is.

Great post. And you’re right, Mahomes is special and is probably going to be the league MVP if continues to play at the level he’s playing at right now.

Blake on the other hand is a lost cause. When he’s on he’s great. When he’s not (which is the case more often than not) he’s terrible. He’s physically and mentally tough, but lacks the mechanics and football IQ to be a consistent winner. 71 ints and a .377 winning percentage as a stater is horrible. Unfortunately we passed up our chance at both Cousins and Smith this offseason and I’m not sure if there will be another group of quality veterans available in the coming offseason. Quite a quandary this team is currently in.
