The issues lies with Wash and wash alone. I think we are at the point where he's gonna really need to show he can adapt the defense mid game , I'm not so sure we have too many examples of him successfully doing that.

Agree on everything.
I can't remember a game where we adjusted correctly if we got outschemed at the start. We either got it right to start with or never recovered (same goes with the offense although the situation on that side of the ball is very different).
And to me he lacks the right creativity and aggressiveness in calling it at crucial times. Not a trash coordinator, he can prepare well within what he knows but the feeling that these defensive players aren't utilized to their full potential is there (even last year, at times).

By the way communication issues Marrone was talking about are on all 3 phases. Special teams too, the Wilson 12th man on the field situation being the worst exemple.
On offense as well.
It all goes back to preparation during the week and Marrone didn't shy away from that. Now let's see if he gets it right.

And to be fair to Wash, it's what his 3rd season as a DC? He's pretty inexperienced in that role. I'd wager some of the best teams at adjusting defenses mid game have extremely experienced DCs like Jim Schwartz or Wade Philips. There is a ton of nuance to playcalling , even on defense and the Seattle style is a pretty simplistic defensive shell that teams have been working hard to breakdown ever since the Seahawks rose to power.

Not to excuse Wash for being bad at adjusting , he needs to develop and quick, but just providing some context.

Also on the Marrone point. Based on everything we know of Marrone he's not gonna dance around issues we have right now. I have no doubt Wash is firmly in his bullseye after that cowboys game , but even if Marrone is focused on getting things right on that end , does Wash have the baseline level of knowledge and ability to right the ship?

I guess we will see.
