NFL.com - Doug Marrone on Jags' D: 'Are we giving them too much?'

#7

Zone coverage does work, let's not act like if we played man all game then there wouldn't be big plays.

The big part of zone D is properly passing receivers through coverage, we have been just awful at that, LB's and DB's. The second is QB pressure, you can't keep zone coverage forever and D players get caught between staying with a receiver or their zone assignment. What makes no sense with how we are using zone is like you guys state, how soft and off the coverage is. Part of the reason the D can't get off the field on 3rd down is that they are usually in a 3rd and 3 and have to play the run, pass and QB scramble.

It was mind boggling how we continued to just give Dallas 7-10 yards underneath all day for fear of a deep ball.

I'm not in the panic mode yet, we can turn this around, but hearing Marrone's press conference on Sunday night and I don't know if anyone say Jalens one word, very depressed locker room interview after the game? If we don't sort ourselves out, this season could get real ugly.
