Jaguars' biggest problem isn't Blake Bortles. It's complacency.

Don't think this guy watches the tape. The article is basically crap and is some writer's opinion that happens to match what fans are seeing and feeling right now. Regarding the part in bold. People on the board "watching tape" are actually just watching highlight reels for the most part. It doesn't present the whole picture. My take is that the offense struggles partly because of injuries (it's a long and ugly list) and partly because of luck. Blake Bortles hasn't played nearly as bad as some say (surprise, surprise). You could have [insert any QB here] playing and if receivers are dropping balls that hit them in the hands and/or chest, that's not on the QB. When the QB is under duress on any pass play, it's not his fault. Has Bortles made some bad plays/decisions? Absolutely. But he's not the problem with the offense right now. Many people will point to injuries and it's a legitimate argument. How many teams have their starting LT (along with the second string LT), TE and WR on IR in week 6? Then throw in the fact that the remaining offensive line players have several that are "banged up" but still playing? Throw in the fact that your #1 RB is sidelined with an injury and your #2 RB is playing with basically "practice squad" players behind him? Regarding the defense, I think that it's players trying to "do too much" rather than just "doing their job". The "rush two players" thing that we saw was more than likely a blown assignment rather than a designed play. I can't imagine ANY DC calling such a defense in that situation. That really wasn't "coaching" as much as it was players not "doing their job". Finally, as far as the "fire [insert coach/coordinator/GM]" is concerned. They aren't on the field playing. It's the players and the team as a whole that needs to step up. I personally think that they will turn it around this week and am looking forward to the game. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. |
