Let's be honest here...there are some long QB shadows cast in SF.

Montana and Young were greats. Hall of Famers, to be sure, and Montana has typically been in the discussion as GOAT until the past 2-3 years.

Kaepernick didn't meet THOSE standards, and naturally he's going to suffer by comparison.

But very few QBs actually DO meet those standards, and MOST QBs are going to suffer by comparison.

But Kaepernick doesn't have to apologize for his NFL career. To suggest as some have done that he is somehow some insult to all self respecting QBs is folly. To suggest as some have done his failure as a QB led to his protest is patently ridiculous.

Kap was a product of Harbaugh's system, nothing more.
