Does anyone think Bortles will be on the roster 2 or 3 years from now?

There is a chance, one or both doesn't even declare. I am starting to cool a bit on Lock. At this point, if Herbert and Haskins aren't in the mix, I trade out of the first round to accumulate picks for 2020. I then make sure I sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, to a 1 or 2 year deal. He's an UFA at the end of the season and he could at least make us competitive until we found our franchise guy. I don't wanna force the issue of drafting a QB either. I believe Herbert and Haskins are franchise players, but that doesn't mean we will be in position to get either one. If we can't, we go with option B and wait another year with Fitzpatrick at the helm. I really believe we missed a chance to get a game changing QB last year. Like I said, if there's not one in this coming draft, don't force the issue. We did force it in 2014. That was a bad draft class. The top QB's were Bortles, Manziel, Bridgewater and Carr. Manziel had a ton of off the field baggage, he was small and he had a reputation for not wanting to put in the work. He was a walking red flag. Now, he's out of the league. Bridgewater was rail thin with tooth picks for legs. Although he was decent, he didn't look like a franchise guy. Now, he looks like a lifetime backup at best. Carr was probably the best of the bunch, but he was nothing spectacular and the mere mention of his name on the board, seemed cursed, as people here utterly did not want him at all, because his older brother turned out to be a "busts". It turns out, he's not much better than Bortles. Regardless of how much we need a new QB, if there's no franchise guys declaring for this draft, we need to recognize that and be patient. Taking the wrong QB, can set a team back 5 years. |
