From another perspective, Smoot (a pick most were not too keen on when made) has been a healthy inactive all year.  If the team does not trade Fowler, you can argue it's as much an indictment of Smoot's lack of ability/development as it is anything else.  If Smoot were active, in the rotation and making plays, it would be easier to trade Fowler at this point if there is demand for him.

The playoffs are essentially off the table. This team would need to go 7-1 at worst to bring the tie breakers back into balance and have sole lead of 1st place, barring Houston and Tennessee collapse, Indy isn't looking too shabby either. We are in dead last place through half of our games this year. It will take a small miracle to make the playoffs. Smoot is trash and you don't trade gifted players. Fowler will take a short term, team friendly/incentive oriented deal or he will hit FA.
