Agreed, it is obvious we we're going to let him walk. It is also important to note that compensatory picks are a year behind. This was for a 2019 3rd and 2020 5th... Going by approximate draft value, a 3rd round pick in 2019 is approximately worth a 2nd round pick in 2020. So this was a very good trade for us.

Good point on the potential compensatory pick from Fowler walking in free agency not being realized until 2020. That makes this deal make a little more sense to me.
