It's possible that Caldwell was behind the choice, but the Fournette pick has Coughlin written all over it. And I still question whether or not Mahomes would have turned out as good under a different coaching staff. Several teams passed on Mahomes, not just the Jags.

My biggest gripe with Caldwell is not his player selection, it's his inability to trade down. He won't initiate a call in that regard; he just waits for another team to call. In every draft but 2016 the top players available were not good value for the Jags. In some of those drafts the next team up did trade down, so it's reasonable to assume that the Jags could have gotten the same deal for the pick one slot higher.

Was there any doubt that Fournette was a Coughlin pick. Everything about that pick screamed Coughlin. A big back with speed is exactly what Tom likes. Its to bad hes super injury prone, I was worried about the injuries when he was drafted, but they have played out worse than expected this season. Hopefully he makes up for lost time when hes back.
