Does watching Seattle excite you about what the Jags are building?

(This post was last modified: 01-23-2014, 11:47 PM by Kotite.)

Statistics are great things.  Going back to the 1993 season, the Big Ten is 7-8 vs. the ACC in Bowl Games, but they are also 21-15 in regular season matchups.  Feel free to check my math.  So going back to your 20 year window, the Big Ten is 28-23 vs the ACC (of course taking into account Nebraska joining the Big Ten in 2010, Miami, VA Tech and Boston College joining the ACC in 2005 and Pitt and Syracuse joining the ACC in 2012).

28 wins to 23 losses is a pretty convincing stat.  Unless you really look at where those wins came from.  9 to perennial bottom feeders Duke (to their credit the Dukies did get two Big Ten wins in this period too), 1 to juggernaut Wake Forest in 2003 (4-7),  and 2 to Boston College in (4-8) and (2-10) seasons.  So, almost half to really awful teams..  if that counts for anything.

And I hate to nitpick, but I think the Big 12 might take offense to you claiming all those Nebraska championships since they didn't become part of the Big Ten until 2010.  The ACC doesn't take credit for Miami's championship in 2001 because they were still part of the Big East then.  And I won't make a big deal about double dipping on the 1997 split title between Michigan and Nebraska.  If we're being honest going back to 93, FSU has three championships in 1993, 1999 and 2013 for the ACC and the Big Ten has two: OSU in 2002 and Michigan in 1997 (with an asterisk).

We've proven we can have a fairly respectful debate and I am confident we could keep this going for weeks if we wanted to.  I'm tired of it personally.  This whole thing stemmed off my assertion that if Kirk Ferentz can't get it done in the Big Ten, he can't get it done in the pros.  I stick by that.  I can tell by your avatar, some of my comments about the Big Ten struck a chord and you're standing up for the conference you support.  This is what I will say about the Big Ten.  They have a very rich history and they produce tough players.  Because that's the style of football they play.   I just feel that other conferences produce better skill players, have better defenses and are more exciting to watch.  I find most Big Ten offenses to be boring if we're being honest.  Although Michigan St. can make me a believer if they can hold on to Dantonio, even though he's almost 60.  THAT guy can coach.  I think the Big Ten's recent bowl record against ALL other conferences is telling.  I think the non-conference regular season games the Big Ten schedules is weak (BELIEVE me, I acknowledge the irony in that statement seeing as we are peripherally talking about the ACC too).  I mean, does the WHOLE conference get to schedule Eastern, Western and Central Michigan?   Hey..  these are just my thoughts.  If you tell me the Big Ten is the 3rd best conference in the NCAA, I will tell you I think that is not accurate.  We can banter back and forth and toss all the numbers in the world around.  I am still putting them 4th at best in my mind.  Respectfully.

Only a chump boos the home team!
