He's 32 - 35 - 2 as a starter. He's never played for a team that managed double digit wins in a single season.
He's overrated and overpaid. They're also currently 30th in cap space right now going into next year with just a little over $8M in space available. Going to be awfully hard to fix that offensive line in one off season. And then you have to factor in who they'll have to lose to balance it out.
Do they lose Thielen? Diggs? Rudolph? At any point those three guys could say "Hmm...making chump change compared to the rest of the guys at my position. Maybe I'll hold out for a little more before my contract expires. I want that extension".
Diggs already got a big contract. Rudolph is average at best. Not sure if Thielan has a new contract or not.
Cousins is not playing well right now. That’s obvious. But he’s still miles better than Blake and he would make this team better. I’m definitely on board with a rookie but Cousins is better than Blake.
They are all knotted up through 2020 - 2021 I believe. Maybe a little further. But you can see Thielen is becoming more frustrated with the offense. And after catching over 100 passes this year? He could dig his heels in the sand next off season and put them in a tough position to extend him, cut him or trade him.
I don't think anybody on here will argue nor contest that Cousins is by far better than Bortles. Anybody with eyes can see that. However, as many have already cited in this thread and probably numerous topics regarding this very same debate.
Cousins' supporting cast is also better with the Vikings. And if he had to play here? We would be even more [BLEEP] than the Vikings are for the next two years. We're already underwater at -$12M next year cap space wise heading into 2019. Could you imagine the backlash this fan base would have right now?
Cousins can barely keep up with QB's in his division like Stafford, Trubisky and Rodgers who is also playing on a lopsided roster with a dysfunctional front office. He would get his teeth kicked in trying to keep up with Watson and Luck in this division. Just like he got his teeth kicked in last night in Seattle.
I would have been all for Cousins during the off season. At a REASONABLE price. $84M guaranteed in full over the course of 3 years is just insanity. Especially for, again, a guy that's never really elevated the players around him during his stint in Washington.
