On a related note, if Marrone is expected to clean house in his coaching staff (I am not sold that is the case), Offensive coordinator is of paramount importance.

One guy I would consider if circumstances permit is former Jaguars OC Bobby Petrino.

He knows the NFL and is familiar with Coughlin and Jacksonville.

However, his collegiate offenses have been quite successful using some more modern and contemporary offensive approaches.  Lamar Jackson was successful in his system.

With his crashes and burns (no pun intended) at Arkansas and Louisville, he may realize his viability as a head coaching prospect may be past the expiration date.

But he still ma be able to bring a fresh approach to the offense here.

The main question I may have in my mind is whether he alienated TC (or vice versa) while he was here earlier.

I think he's coaching like his job isn't on the line because not only is he sticking with Kessler, but he's playing guys to evaluate them instead of trying to win the last few games.  I don't actually have a problem with that to be honest.  I like Marrone, and feel like this approach is an honest attempt to look at guys who may or may not be on the roster next year.  There are going to be some significant personnel decisions that need to be made since we're unloading some high priced guys to clear the deck for cap room.  Had this been a situation where Marrone was coaching for his job, I don't think we would have seen Bortles benched permanently, or Fournette given one snap in the second half of a game. 

I think Hackett was sent packing because he was an advocate for Bortles, and benching Blake while sticking with him at OC would have created unnecessary tension there.  I think that firing was probably signed off on by Coughlin, and ultimately sent a message to Caldwell that his time here is quickly coming to a close.

I wouldn't have a problem with Petrino, especially since he'll be working with a young QB.  I would like to see them find the right QB coach to help with that development.  There are some good ones out there.  Might be intersting to bring in a guy like Ken Zampese in Cleveland.  He's done one heck of a job bringing Mayfield along.  

I don't think Petrino did anything to alienate himself from Coughlin, unless his antics since leaving here have soured TC.
