'Re-doing' a contract isn't taking the old one to the shredder, and signing a deal for much less.  It would be converting remaining contract money into guaranteed bonus that then amortizes over the remainder of the contract years, with minimized salary. We're already worried about cap management, and you all want to guarantee Blake MORE? 

The way Blake's contract is structured is presently a benefit. It didn't break the bank, and we can affordably get out of it  before it expires once we have a suitable replacement. I absolutely figure Blake to be the starter next year, unless some team offers a trade for him (stop laughing).  If not, we're looking at someone along the lines of Kessler taking the bulk of the snaps. This could be disastrous for any rookie we bring in, as we've seen with the past two early-round QBs we've taken - the competition is not there, and impatience puts the young guy in a position that overwhelms them and stunts their development.
