My point has nothing to do with the cap.

First, let me be clear. Calais is probably the best FA signing in the history of the Team. 25 sacks in two years is more than anyone could ask for. They are the two best years of production in his career, and he frankly got hosed this year for not making consecutive pro bowls ( I would be interested to see if he is on the ALL PRO LIST.) He's one of the best players on the team and part of me would love to see him back in teal next year for us to make another run at it.

The business side is this, he's going to be 33 at kick off next year. Time is undefeated. Yes, he shows no affects now but we know that within the next 1-2 years there is going to be a drop off in play and we won't be seeing J.J. Watt light, we'll be seeing the average rotational strong side end. The smart teams Trade players in this age range before the decline happens to maximize draft capital. Am I saying make it a fire sale and let him go for a 5th round pick just to clear cap space? no. I am saying if someone calls with a second and a fourth then its in the long term interest of the team to make the trade for long term value.
