Fournette guarantees ($7.1mil) voided

Unfortunately for the team that blew a very valuable pick on him - it appears his personality and lack of professionalism may have worn out his welcome prematurely.  He's clearly in the doghouse in Jax.

He appears to be one of those not-so-uncommon young athletes that has bought in to his own hype and holds himself in higher regard than his team and coaches.  There seems to be a young sub-set of players in the NFL that think they can affect change in the building as if they were premier NBA players.
That model is never going to work for a sport with 22 starters and 53 on a roster.  You might have 4 or 5 teams who involve their super-star QB in a discussion or two about structuring offensive staff and scheme, but that's as far as it will go. Second year, oft-injured running backs aren't afforded special treatment and don't get to rack up suspensions without consequence.

I'd love to see the young man get his head right and be an integral part of a RB rotation in Jax next year. But if he fails to impress his willingness to commit to a team first philosophy to coaches  - and they can package him to improve draft stock or move him for something of value  -  I'll certainly understand why.

You make some good points, I agree that players are looking at the NBA and think they can get the mega contracts. The bit they seem to miss is the season or two of performances that earn the mega contract.

It's the dilemma with Fournette. Take the Pittsburgh game in the playoffs, he was fantastic and really helped the O. He was good for 5yds most carries. I don't know what happened this season, something was off from week 1 and he never got going this season. Add the off the field stuff and the Buffalo ejection and he's like the rest of the team, do you judge his good season or last season?

He really needs to mature and have some goal in football other than money. We've seen RB's look a bust one place to hit somewhere else (Lynch). I wouldn't get rid of him for anything, we need a run game next season but if someone offered something crazy.. ..

I get worried how many young players we have that take these wrong paths.
