It's spelled out in his contract that the team can void his guarantees if suspended, so on what grounds would he be filing a grievance?

From PFW, the contract goes on to mention specific events that could void the guarantee. Being suspended for on-field behavior is not among them, while being suspended for off-field behavior is listed. From what I read, he has a good case to overturn the voiding of guarantees.
