Wheatley was handed a stable of RB's that can't stay healthy. Fournette started eight games. Yeldon started five. Hyde started two. Grant was gone after the 5th game of the season. We pulled Jamaal Charles off the streets for a few weeks at one point. And then we activated David Williams off of someone's PS I believe.
Flaherty's ENTIRE offensive line was TRASHED throughout the season. Just obliterated. We had to bring back Omameh and sign Flowers mid season after we were down to our 3rd or 4th string LT. Norwell was in and out of a walking boot. Linder is always good for missing a game or two (or more) each year he's been here. Robinson was done early. Parnell couldn't finish. It was bad.
And Fewell? How the [BLEEP] does that work? The secondary still finished as one of the best in the NFL. That's in spite of Church blowing assignments, and then a rookie taking his place and being in and out and ending up on IR which technically means he was down to a 3rd string SS. Then we lost Bouye for a few games and I believe Hayden. AND.. that's on top of the defense being out on the field entirely too much thanks to the injuries and overall ineptitude of the offense to begin with!
ALL of these firings are head scratchers. Even Hackett's firing was a head scratcher when you look at the injuries going all the way back to Lee during the pre season. This is just a piss poor excuse for Marrone. A load of bull [BLEEP] really. I don't know what the [BLEEP] Coughlin is doing in that building either. Just a bunch of dumb [BLEEP] decisions being made so far. Not good...
Has ANYBODY been [BLEEP] fired yet from the strength and conditioning staff?
The speculation is that Wheatley ran a very soft RB room and let them do whatever they wanted - which helped create LF's diva attitude and Yeldon's lackadaisical body language.
I don't buy that B.S at all. For starters. LF's "diva" attitude doesn't make a ton of sense. The guy has barely played any football in the NFL so far. His problem is his injuries and reportedly his lack of effort to recover from said injuries. As far as Yeldon's "body language". He's gone. That was the last game of the year. He knows this team isn't going to resign him. He also saw Church cut and Jackson's playing time reduced on defense. Obvious roster decisions being made right there on the spot in real time going into 2019.
They drafted Fournette BECAUSE he failed to live up to the starting job to begin with after the team had invested a 2nd RD pick on him a few years ago. And they had picked-up Hyde via trade. So going into 2019 the RB position was looking crowded to begin with.
And I am sorry. You can only coach "grown men" for so long. They either have a good approach and a professional approach or they don't. For every Barry Sanders and Larry Fitzgerald in the NFL. You'll find a diva like Antonio Brown and LeVeon Bell. It's just the way it goes. And it's honestly always been that way.
Blaming and firing Wheatley for those two butt wipes is a joke. Especially after being here for just two years and literally being expected to make magic out of lunch meat in year two with no offensive line to work with, no passer to work with, etc. This is just Marrone trying to distance himself from as much blame as possible even though he says all the right things that a head coach is supposed to say.
But actions speak louder than words...
