The Devils advocate: Keeping Blake Bortles!

#1

I agree with most here.  Blake is inconsistent, he's inaccurate, he struggles with Basic things a veteran NFL QB should not.  That being said he was a few bad calls away from taking the  2017 Jacksonville Jaguars to the Superbowl.   People look at the numbers and believe he played really poor in both of those games but the numbers don't tell all.  Blake made some big time plays in both the Buffalo and especially the Steelers game.

Fast forward to 2018, and the same Bortles takes the team to a 3-1 start while knocking off the future Superbowl Champs.   People forget how bad the defense played in the beginning of the year with huge holes open in the secondary.  Despite that this team started 3-1 until the injuries started piling up.  By the Start of week 5 the Injuries started piling up..  Fournette(out), Lee (IR), Robinson (IR), Grant(IR),Mickens (IR),O'Shaughnessy(OUT),Paul(IR),Jenkins(IR),Richardson(IR), Wells(IR)

*Note how the tight end group was just obliterated and the offensive tackle position was eradicated.  To be honest I believe almost any QB would struggle in the same position.

DeFillipo is a R.P.O (Run-pass-option) specialist that I personally believe Bortles could fit in.  People forget that Foles struggled until the Eagles adapted the RPO offense and he excelled.  With Bortles athletic ability he could excel as a running threat in this type of offense. I believe the front office when they say it had nothing to do with Foles cause they could visions Bortles as the starter.

If the Jags are serious about competing for a Super Bowl in 2019 season the only 2 real options are Foles or Borltes.   I would much rather have Foles but if he hits free agency there maybe a bidding war that we just can't afford.  I see no one else available that could help the Jags immediately.  Sure we could draft a Qb in the 1st round but he's not coming in as a rookie and competing for a ring.

Jags could use what money and draft stock they have and bolster the Oline, Tight end, and receiver posiiton.  I know it's not the popular vote and I cannot say that I feel comfortable with it.  Looking at the history of the team, salary cap problems, and lack of options for an immediate contender I could see the Jaguars sticking with Bortles another year.
