3 GM's compare this QB class to the 2011 class

Quote:Because he is way more than just a good arm. He has a great arm, is very cerebral, has an unparalleled work ethic, and his leadership is off the charts. You read the Senior Bowl reports, Carr was the only player who sat in on the other position group meetings, made a concerted effort to get to know every teammate, stayed after every practice to work extra with Jordan Matthews (and rubbed off on some other WR who wound up staying later in the week). I kinda look at the other side of that. Maybe Carr did all those things this week because he fears he can't stand alone on his play. He knew the lights were on so to speak and that doing that "extra work" would be caught by the press and hence perhaps overshadow some of the red flags in his game that were exposed by the USC game. "Dealing with pressure" isn't a small knock. Its huge. How a QB deals with adversity is generally what separates the good from the bad in the NFL. Its not an "easy fix". Garoppolo, OTOH, looks the part. He looks comfortable and seems to play the game already the way that is asked from a pro QB. It looks natural and instinctive. Same with Teddy but upgraded, and Bortles. Carr, to me looks like a project...and frankly, I'm tired of projects at the position. Time we go in a more polished route. |
