I originally voted the draft a B- based on the picks of Williams, Minshew, and Russell. Allen, Taylor, Oliver, and Armstead were all great to solid picks.

I still think the Williams pick in inexplicable at that spot. Unless he's going to play safety instead of linebacker, he's a blue light special Telvin Smith. I would much rather have seen another OL with that pick. Or we could have had Will Grier. Now there would be a backup QB. Guards Samia, Froholdt, and Powers were all still on the board.

I've really warmed up to the Minshew. Though I don't see him becoming starter material necessarily, he could be the actual competition to become an upgrade to Kessler. At the very least, he'll be a less expensive version of Kessler.

Russell is just meh. I don't know what I'm expecting with a 7th round pick. He's as good as any, I suppose.

Caldwell pretty much admitted Quincy was a reach. They actually asked him if he was a reach, and Caldwell said no, but then the rest of the conversation suggested he was including an admission from Caldwell that he tried to trade back but couldn't. Now Oliver did have some scouts and it sounds like his name was heating up in some circles, but I'm thinking it was more just enough to move him from round 7 to round 5... not exactly round 3. With that said, he does fit very well the kind of type Wash likes at LB, and he really does look like a potential Telvin Smith 2.0 where I see him fitting right in as Telvin's backup with potential to be legit Special Teams ace. Now I'd have taken Hakeem Barkley or Will Grier, but I get the feeling Todd Wash said "I want him," and Caldwell did what it took to guarantee Wash got his guy. My fear with Quincy is that he's very compact and when he hits, he violently goes through players reminding me of Gerald Sensabaugh. While that's encouraging, it's also the kind of violent hitting that the refs have been throwing flags for.

As for Minshew, I strongly believe he easily beats out Kessler for the backup role and that we're only going 2 QBs with Tanner maybe on the PS another year.

Russell looks like fine 7th round value to me. For such a huge and powerful guy he's rather athletic with all sorts of moves. The only real knock I've seen is that he needs to learn to play lower for proper leverage in short-yardage situations, but that's what coaching is for. Hopefully he's not already too of a dog to learn new tricks.
