The MLB needs to have a very high football IQ. Essentially they are the QB of the defense, directing and tweaking position and alignment, reading defenses. I've never gotten the impression that either Jack or T. Smith have it. I think both are great LBs on the outside, though. I just don't think we have a LB on the roster than can be our defensive QB.

I think Jack will get the hang of it. We get caught up a lot and we forget that this guy was playing everywhere for UCLA. He played RB, LB and S at times. Then he blew his knee out and missed basically an entire year of football. A lot of people thought he would be a damn good fit at the WILL position coming out of school but we ended up sticking him at SAM when Paul was here during his rookie year. Then he struggled in 2017 playing inside and they moved Paul back into that role and kicked him back out to SAM. 

I like him more on the outside personally. Because we saw him make crazy plays as a rookie. I don't care if he plays Will or Sam. I just like his athletic range. If he slips up more this year they may need to reconsider that move and they may want to address the Mike position again during next year's off-season. Paddy Fisher out of Northwestern could be a good fit here next year if he declares. He was being hyped up late last year before going back to school.
