The Williams pick has been beaten to death here but you have to give Dave Caldwell credit for making the pick over many more "popular" options. He wasn't drafting with job security in mind- he hit a home run (albeit somewhat lucky) in Round 1 and followed it up with a solid hit in Round 2, almost a second home run in the eyes of many. In Round 3, the TE was an adequate pick, not sexy but necessary (over Sternberger and Knox, both likely preferred by the MB experts).

Then came the compensatory pick and according to many here he whiffed. Think about it, had he made a popular pick such as Gardner-Johnson, Hakeem Butler or even Will Grier, he would have been hailed here by most as the GOAT of GMs for at least a couple of months.

He had to know he'd be skewered by the experts listed above and had to understand that his pick would forever be compared to the players taken after his pick (he also had to realize the Brian Anger comparisons). Yet he stood tall and made the pick. I'll give him credit for that and look forward to seeing QW play.
