Should the Jags trade back and stockpile future picks to make a run at a QB next year?

Quote:Several ways to answer this...

1. Maybe if the guy they like somehow falls out of the top ten to the Jaguars' spot...no you don't hold off on taking a QB.

2. If the Jaguars' guy they like is gone by their pick (most likely under this scenario), maybe they take one in the second, with the idea if he is a colossal disappointment, we'll likely be in a reasonable position to draft one next year.

3. At this point, I would not trade down because QB or not, the Jaguars are in position to get a legitimate impact player if they stay at 3, but if QB is the team's top priority, they could stay and get a guy they like, or be in a reasonable position to trade up to get their guy. Furthermore, trading down this year in the hopes of getting the QB next year-even with the trade up-is an iffy at best proposition. There's no telling what will happen with the QBs you named. I hope this doesn't happen, but suppose they are targeting a particular guy and he blows out a knee or an achilles late in the season and won't be eble to play until week 12 or so, with no guarantee he'll be the same guy? IF the guys stay healthy and all improve their games, the extra pick in the first, standing alone, may not be enough to trade up to get the guy, especially if the team somehow shows a modicum of improvement. Besides, asking a coach and GM to wait until year three of their regimes-assuming they are still around-to get their signal caller-is a lot to ask of them, of Khan and the fans, especially if they have traded out of position to land an impact player that could help turn the team around.

Regarding your 3rd point.

Is there really that much a difference in talent from 3 to lets say 11, assuming Clowney goes first overall? Is the difference in talent worth more than an extra 1st round pick next year?

Trading back doesn't exclude you from drafting a QB all together but it may cause you to miss out on the “big 3 QBs".
