Impressions from the Ravens Game

A second year DT isn't exactly going to be a "sack machine" nor is he going to generate a lot of headlines from his play. He did fine. Do I wish that he did better? Of course, but the bottom line is he's not much better or worse than the average DT in the league. He's a young rotational player. As far as this first preseason game scrimmage, I liked a few things and have some concerns about others. I'm still "on the fence" as far as starting the regular "#1's" or not. Coach Marrone expressed that this is new to him as well, but his explanation kind of makes sense. If your front line players have a good week of practice then there is no reason to risk injury in a meaningless game scrimmage. I suspect that most of the injuries right now are not severe and holding players out of either practice or a meaningless game scrimmage is probably the smart thing to do. O-line depth seems to be THE major issue right now. It doesn't really matter that there were no points scored by the team or the fact that they failed to cross the 50 yard line. What matters is evaluating the depth and people that the team MIGHT have to depend on in the upcoming season. Cutting the roster almost in half (90 players to 53) can not be easy, especially if you have some young players that might be promising. Relax. Once Game 1 of the regular season takes place we will have a better idea of where this team is. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't. |
