No, look at the lower picture.  The ball is loose.  That's why he failed to extend it into the end zone.

He's already been contacted by the safety in this still, thus the ball was beyond that point (and likely secure) before this contact you've captured.

No, what I saw when I was watching the replay on Sunday was that his hand came forward without the ball, because he lost his grip when he tried to extend it.  His hand then retracts to regain control of the ball, and by that time, he was stopped.  He never extended the ball.
