And NFL teams disregard contracts all the time if they can save money or move a player they don't want regardless of what the player wants.

This is such a crap argument.  Players don't know this when they sign the contracts?  I'm sure it's part of the contract language anyway.

That's the point I'm making. Contracts in the NFL have plenty of scope for being disregarded based on circumstance. If a players in the last year of his deal and is a big name player it's extremely common practice to withhold some level of service to put some pressure on the team. 

It's not new to try utilize whatever leverage you have to try get to a new team or contract, even if already on a deal.

What is new is players viewing themselves more as a partner Vs just an asset. Such as the Jags using up their usefulness to Jalens goals
