They had JUST SIGNED A MLB in Ryan. Why draft another MLB at that point. It's much easier  (and cheaper capital-wise) to draft a will than a mike and they knew (thought) Jack could pull off playing mike until Ryan was ready.

I hope Ryan gets healthy and gets a shot in the middle.  Prematurely paying Jack is beginning to look like a major mistake.

Because he just missed an entire season? Because he wasn't expected back until some point in the middle of the season?

IF the plan was to move Jack (which I 100% doubt because of the contract), but for the sake of the fun debate... Then here were the FO's choices:

Choice A: Move Jack  during offseason and allow him to learn the position with the appropriate time and practice and draft a MLB in 3rd round... allow them time to gel and get comfortable with each other... and move forward with those 2 as the starters and have Ryan as the back up when/and if healthy.

Choice B: Draft a OLB in the 3rd (Quincy), move Jack mid season without any practice there (Telvin has played weakside OLB since Jack has been here) and start Ryan, and have your 3rd round OLB (who should without a question be in there starting and productive) on the bench.

To me it's pretty clear A is the better choice IF and the whole plan was to move Jack and start Ryan and MLB.

Agree though on the Jack contract. It just looks dumber as each game passes.
