This loss was on the defense. I am offically on the Fire Todd Wash bandwagon. (merged)

The problems Myles Jack is having playing MLB is a reminder that coaches and scouts put so much emphasis on measurables and constantly underrate production and performance. Playing MLB doesn't just take intelligence, or speed. It also requires instincts, which is just another way of saying, "Okay, besides the measurables, how is he as a football player?"
Look at Gardner Minshew. That's the opposite example. Downgraded because of measurables, but completely underrated in the area of instincts, and football playing ability. Emmitt Smith is another example. Too small, too slow, etc, but a great football player. A quick-twitch brain. Instincts. Myles Jack just isn't a MLB. There's no way to measure it. It doesn't have to do with speed, or intelligence. It's a mental fit. A quick-twitch brain with good instincts in a person that just naturally plays MLB. Coaches have egos, and they think they can take a guy with measurable talents and teach him a new position. It's a lot safer to draft a guy who plays MLB, who's always played MLB, and who shows great instincts on film. Poz, bless his memory, was a pure MLB, with great instincts, who was always coming downhill in the correct gap and making the tackle. |
