Carlos Hyde was pissing away a fifth-round pick. Josh Dobbs is a QB who would be starting for the Steelers right now if Mason Rudolph hadn't been sitting there in round three, a round later than expected. They didn't offload Dobbs because he's crap, they offloaded him because he didn't have a place there as a future starter, but they weren't about to cut a guy that was their heir apparent a year ago. If Dobbs is unceremoniously cut as soon as Foles come back, then yes, that was a stupid trade. If he's kept around and developed to replace Foles as the backup in 2021, or he plays well enough in the preseason to get that fifth round pick back (or better), that's hardly a bad pick.

It's hard to find a cheap QB in trade, especially if your QB is out for two months. What would you have preferred, bringing back Tanner Lee?
