This is an interesting point. It appears Caldwell has set the 5th round as the highest round he'll go for a player that would only serve their purposes for the remainder of the season. Perhaps the thought is that if you get a decent season out of a 5th round pick, that's good enough and anything more is frosting on the cake.

Then again, Caldwell will tend to get several good years out of his 5th rounders, so that logic doesn't really cut the mustard.


As it relates, a few teams still carry three QBs. Not counting the Saints who have a 3rd QB who also plays as a TE or the Chiefs who just activated Sudfeld with Mahomes injured, several teams are keeping three QBs this season including the Steelers, Ravens, Bengals, Raiders, Chargers, Giants, Eagles, Redskins, Lions, Panthers and  49ers. That's over 1/3rd of the league.
