The scheme doesn't matter to me a bit if it works. Hell, run the damn Wing T out there if we can get 300 yards and 28 points out of it. Just do something that works and quit doing what doesn't.
It's all about balance. I just hate the predictability with this offense at times. There's a [BLEEP] ton of blame to go around for the inconsistencies this year across the board but it all circles back to coaching. I questioned it during the preseason. And my questioning is still there after seeing it carry over into the regular season. The overall lack of starting time this starting offense had as a unit during the preseason bothered me. Bothered a lot of people.
I can't remember who said it in another thread. Maybe it was you? But it feels like Marrone and Wash coach "not to lose" at times. And that also seems to ring true with their approach regarding the personnel. These guys barely [BLEEP] practice today in the NFL. I know we're concerned about injuries here and there but IMHO it would be better to get the chemistry developed and shake the rust off with live rounds.
Come whatever may from that but you can't keep babying these guys and taking it easy in today's NFL.
Players are typically in and out of teams these days. There's clearly no loyalty anymore between the teams and players. Unless you're a bad [BLEEP] QB that you can mold and shape anybody around. But for the most part? The rest of these guys are expendable. You could make a case here and there at maybe RB, DE and LT. But even those players have to play exceptionally well to be retained. The tinhorns didn't blink shipping off Clowney this year. The Giants didn't blink shipping off Beckham Jr. List goes on and on.
You got it...
How Jerry Rice trained:
In team workouts he was famous for his hustle; while many receivers would trot back to the quarterback after catching a pass, Rice would sprint to the end zone after each reception. He would typically continue practicing long after the rest of the team had gone home. Most remarkable were his six-days-a-week off-season workouts, which he conducted entirely on his own. Mornings were devoted to cardiovascular work, running a hilly five-mile trail; he would reportedly run ten forty-meter wind sprints up the steepest part. In the afternoons he did equally strenuous weight training. These workouts became legendary as the most demanding in the league, and other players would sometimes join Rice just to see what it was like. Some of them got sick before the day was over.
